About:
Hi all, I am Jeff Sprouse and I am an amateur photographer from the Eastern Shore of Virginia in the USA but I now reside in Yokosuka Japan.
My Japanese journey began when I visited Yokosuka in 1982 while serving onboard the US Submarine USS Aspro (SSN-648). Over the next decade I would visit on several other occasions and my fascination with the country and its people grew with each visit. When the opportunity arose to be stationed in Yokosuka, I jumped at the chance. Once I retired from the US Navy, I and my family chose to stay in Japan. I then decided to complete my college education and, from there, was hired on as a civil servant in IT for the United States Government. Finally in October 2023, I made the decision to wholly retire. I now spend my time just kicking back and enjoying life (for the most part). This includes traveling around Japan with my lovely Japanese wife of 35 years (she is very tolerant) in our converted Toyota Hiace camper. Our one daughter does join us for trips to the States but does not travel Japan with us, her loss.
I picked up photography as a hobby to fill my spare time and as an excuse to see more of this country. One of my goals is to visit all 47 prefectures to see what they have to offer. Currently, 11 February 2026, I have visited 39 of the prefectures. I have spent more time in some and others, like Okinawa, I have visited but was job related so no photos were taken.
I will update this page as I visit places but that will not be on a weekly or monthly basis just when ever I travel.
Hope you enjoy.
